When American Malcolm Glazer paid $1.5 billion for Manchester United in 2005, many on England thought he was crazy. Forbes then valued the club at $1.25 billion. Today, Fin their latest survey, Forbes estimates Man U's worth at $1.8 billion, making it the top dog in their latest annual ranking of the world's most valuable soccer teams.
David Beckham’s move to Los Angeles last summer was a big score for MLS and U.S. soccer. The Galaxy’s attendance for the league matches he played averaged 37,659, which is 57% more than the team’s previous record. --- Ratings for ESPN2, one of MLS’s national television partners, rose 25%... FORBES estimates Beckham made $49 million in 2007 to make him the highest-paid player in the world.
