The New York Red Bulls let go of hot commodity Jozy Altidore last week in exchange for a record MLS transfer fee of around $ 10 million, courtesy Villarreal of the Spanish first division.
The teen phenom - who has also been a star recently for the u-20 and senior USA national sides - has been a featured writer for the New York Times' GOAL Blog since joining RBNY last season.
In his latest entry, entitled "Jozy Altidore: It's a Done Deal", he explains his personal side of the story, excerpted here...
"I love Villarreal’s yellow uniform. I was looking at pictures of me from the old days, with Boca Juniors in Florida, and it’s kind of come full circle. Back in those days I always dreamed about this. It’s something I’ve always wanted, something I’ve always seen myself doing. And I guess I’m lucky it’s worked out." "I still hope to play in the Olympics in China and the people at Villarreal said they would love for me to play because they know how important it is to me and our country. They understand that it’s a big competition..."
