The North American SuperLiga 2008 Championship is a summer tournament featuring the four top teams from each of the first divisions of Mexico and the USA...

Here are the Major League Soccer teams and their 2007 awards:

Houston Dynamo - MLS Cup Champions

New England Revolution - MLS Cup runners-up and US Open Cup Champions

Chivas USA - Western Division: best record in regular-season

DC United - Eastern Division: best record in regular season and Supporters Shield Winners (league's best overall record in regular season)

Here are the Mexican First Division teams:

Pachuca - SuperLiga defending champions... ...will join the three top finishers from the most recent Apertura (opening) and Clausura (closing) regular seasons...

Atlante - CD (Chivas) de Cuadalajara - Santos Laguna

"The tournament will include a group phase and a knockout phase with all games held in U.S. venues. Eight clubs – four each from the top-flight leagues of the United States and Mexico – will vie to determine a singular champion of North America. The club that emerges SuperLiga™ champion will take home $1 million in prize money, the largest purse in North American soccer history."

"During the inaugural edition of SuperLiga, CF Pachuca defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy in a dramatic match decided by penalty kicks at The Home Depot Center...this new competition between rival soccer nations became an instant hit among millions of soccer fans in Mexico and the United States."

Some of you may remember that one of the 2007 SuperLiga semifinals also got a great deal of publicity; the reason - it was the occasion of David Beckham's first-ever Galaxy goal (and they won, defeating DC United 2-0).

The entire tournament will be available in English online courtesy MLS, and in Spanish exclusively on TV via the Telefutura network. Many other video features will be available on the official website, include pre- and post- match interviews and highlights.
