Development News: WPS announces player allocations

On Tuesday at New York City's Sports Museum of America, the future league now famous for co-ownership by the NBA's Steve Nash and former Yahoo ! CEO Jeffrey Mallett announced their teams' first player allocations...

Players on the USWNT (who incidentally just won the Gold Medal in Beijing at the Summer Olympics) were given first choice to select their desired team assignment.

The league, whose forerunner was the WUSA, has some of the same administrators, players, and team bases as its predecessor. Seven teams will debut on the league's schedule in April 2009; an eighth team will join the following season.
