On Monday afternoon at the White House, a great honor was bestowed upon the reigning MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew. That great team - who spent most of the 2008 season at the top of the table, and then followed through by defeating RBNY in the Final at the Home Depot Center - got their date with the U.S. President, as is traditional for U.S. sports champion teams and individual athletes...
President Barack Obama was familiar with the team and their accomplishments, and even had a chance to show off his skills during the ceremony in the Rose Garden. He spoke eloquently, and took the time to single out and speak with many of the players and personnel individually...
The team's day also included a full tour of the White House, as well as being the first U.S. champions sports team to participate in The President's new volunteer program, as they helped introduce it together with him...
