GALAXY's Donovan gets 3rd MLS Player of the Week award this year
After Edson Buddle won his second MLS Player of the Week award for round 12, Landon Donovan now gets his third for round 13. Adding in David Beckham's two awards, this gives the Galaxy seven of the 13 weeks' MLS Player of the Week prizes, which are voted on by journalists...
LA are on top of the West, with 21 points (6-4-3); they next meet DC UNITED - Sunday on ABC TV (Noon EDT)...
from MLSNet, "Donovan recorded his league-leading fourth multi-goal game of the season, as he scored two goals in the Galaxy's 3-3 tie at home versus the Columbus Crew. The Galaxy earned one point and retained sole possession of first place in the Western Conference."
"Donovan's four-game absence - including one US Open Cup qualifying game - from the Galaxy lineup didn't seem to affect his form. He picked up where he left off as his two goals catapulted him to the top of the Budweiser Golden Boot race. With two goals on Saturday, Donovan sits at 75 career regular season goals scored. He became the youngest player to score 75 goals at 26 years, 110 days old. New England's Taylor Twellman held the previous mark scoring his 75th goal in 2006 at 26 years, 221 days old."
"This is Donovan's third Player of the Week award this season, and the eighth of his career. He previously won back-to-back awards in weeks 4 and 5, when he scored five goals in a two-game span. The Galaxy (6-4-3, 21 points) return to action on Sunday, June 29 when they travel to RFK Stadium to play D.C. United at Noon ET as part of ABC's Sunday Doubleheader with the 2008 European Championship final."
