Landon Donovan got his 100th cap, and played well, as did the entire USMNT against the world's number one ranked team. Tim Howard made many big saves, and Freddy Adu was a burst of energy as a late sub.
The temperature on the pitch was at over 100 degrees F. at kickoff, but that did not deter the throngs who packed the stadium from expressing their exuberance, nor did it deter the players from giving it their best effort.
In general, Team USA did a great job of holding off the excellent Argentina attack, which for the entire first half included the stellar Lionel Messi. For the Americans, there was not only Howard staying sharp and steady, but also defenders including Steve Cherundolo and Oguchi Onyewu standing strong.
The final score was 0-0, but it was as good as a win for the USA, who took away a sense of well-deserved pride and confidence going into next weekend's CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The sold-out attendance was the largest ever to see the USA play there, and the fourth-largest in size for any sporting event; officially... 78,682.
from MLSNet, "The United States national team bounced back from a pair of losses to England and Spain in Europe to play Argentina, the top-ranked team in the world, to an entertaining scoreless draw in front of 78,682 at Giants Stadium on a steamy Sunday night."
