Brian McBride made his Chicago Fire debut at home venue Toyata Park on Saturday night versus DC United; the 36 year-old icon grew up in Chicagoland, and was welcomed warmly by the crowd...
It was not entirely unexpected that the USA Men did not make it out of the first round at the Olympics, but disappointing nonetheless, as McBride was the veteran leading the squad, and by far the oldest and most experienced. He played well in China, but the Americans' early departure gave him a chance to get on with his career at Toyota Park, and at a time when they could really use his help at the forward position.
In his Fire debut, his homecoming was spoiled somewhat by the visiting team who were hungry for another win, fresh off a U.S. Open Cup semifinal victory earlier this week...
from MLSNet,
"D.C. United got a goal from Fred in the 27th minute and held on the remainder of the way, for a 1-0 victory Saturday night against the Chicago Fire. Brian McBride made his Chicago debut, coming on at halftime and nearly scored the equalizer, but saw it stopped by United goalkeeper Louis Crayton, who was making his MLS debut."
